Temperance: Research

In this document I will be examining the character choices I have chosen to temperance and looking for certain forms and details such as clothing artefacts belongings that the character may have on them this is to grab a visualisation of what my character may look like or to pick ideas to make my character look even better.

The temperance I decided to go with a military leader so I be looking through various military clothing to see which one looks good for a high-ranking military leader and also which ones of very possible to model in the z brush

Main military uniform for a high-ranking officer:

This image looks are rough outline of the standard uniform for the different sections in the military. And also highlights the main differences between each which is useful because if I apply this to my character it will give more information on what section of the military he is in.

A look at military uniform

The main militarily uniform seems to be comprised of a polo shirts often featuring medals and ribbons also featuring small shoulder pads along with tie. Uniform also features a blazer which often displays the rank and also medals and ribbons depending on which section of the military the uniforms from for example Navy Army. Pants Reynolds uniform are often black but sometimes depending on the difference military section they can have different design colours and different patterns most seats is welcome with hats these can be berets or certain officer hat depending on the rank of the personnel.

Military suit comparison

Even though these two uniforms of the different sections of the military. They have some fundamental parts of the uniforms are the same to the other for example the main form of the Glazer is very similar. As well the medals and where they are positioned on the top left of the suit this is the same on both suits. But as well even though there are many different uniforms for different countries they all still revolve around a tidy clean blazer featuring different ranks displayed and also medals displayed. With both of these suits they have similar buttons and also this is found on many different uniforms but the top suit has a belt and also a strap across the chest. Though most of these uniforms are decorative and not worn in combat the main purpose is to display rank and to make the soldier or commander lock visually clean and tidy

Medals and their meanings

Medals are a sign of the achievement that a soldier or military personnel has achieved in their career. They often can vary in what they mean for example medals can be given for bravery long service author going on certain missions or doing certain activities. Often the main command of a ship would have more medals than private would because of the extensive experience of command officer would have. Medals on the universally used within military uniforms many different countries such as China and America and even the UK award medals to military personnel. Medals are an important part of a military uniform as they show past accomplishments I think medals will be very useful when I created my character as be able to show through medals parts of the temperance virtue.

Ribbons

Ribbons are a lot smaller medals they are sown in to a military suit. There are many ribbons that are a symbol of rank and not of great importance so for example advancing from rank to rank more ribbons will be added to their suit. Many different countries have many variants of ribbons some can be for bravery or fighting in certain wars or many other events. I think ribbons will be useful to use in my final character as it will be able to convey information about what rank my character is and also what events he's been in but also I could create custom ribbons and then highlight their meaning in a document to show that my character has done certain things help me to show his personality and show hurry reflects to temperance.

Ranks

Ranter used in the military the decipher the level in a military career that person is. Often with ranks higher they are the more intricate the design for the rank is so for example some military private ranks are something simple like a triangle shape while an officer may have stars or more intricate variation of the same triangle shape as a private rank. Ranks are often displayed on a military uniform even combat uniforms and display uniforms they may often be shown on the left shoulder or alongside medals and ribbons this is so people can easily identify someone's rank. Also as well like the medals and ribbons is to show a person's achievements this aspect of the suit will be vital in character design as a military person without rank is totally out of place.

Military uniforms from the TV show about star Galactic

This uniform is very similar to to a standard military uniform as for example medals of the splayed across the chest and also is a similar blazer design as well as a strap across the chest and waste. But this uniform is different in the way that the rank is worn as a type of cuff link around neck and also medals displayed across the strap around the chest. I presume that this is to display rank and achievements quicker compared to modern military uniform this may be something I include in my character design.

This image is a breakdown of three different suits from the Battle star Galactic series. The two on the left of ceremonial uniforms to be worn on certain occasions these use the strap across the chest the display medals similar to modern military suit. The two suits in the middle are on duty uniforms the middle left is an officer uniform which features so medals are also a very formal design on the front fastens similar to some of the modern military designs while the one on the right is almost like a work uniform featuring many pockets and is zip up similar to a jumpsuit both the seats though have the neck symbols which shows the rank of the wearer. The last two on the rides are simple work jumpsuits mostly used by the engineers in the TV series these do not feature the neck symbols is because people wearing this type received and are often a high enough rank to event them yet.

The rank symbols used in battle star Galactic similar to the ranks used on the left arm of modern military uniforms but instead they are more like medals that are placed like cuff links around the neck. In these images that looks through the different design that these medals have for example the private ones similar to modern uniforms are almost blank of with almost no detail on while the Admiral's medals are inscribed and also feature extra parts. In my character design I will definitely include something like this as it is fundamental to a military uniform.

These uniforms from the TV show Star Trek. Though they are not similar to the original uniforms in the actual show they've been changed to a new design. I use this image Because found interesting the design layout of the suit very similar to modern suits and also the suit used in battle-star Galactic but different in the way that the rank is shown on the sleeve not the shoulder or the neck but also similar to modern uniforms in that ribbons and the army that they belong to is displayed across the chest.

Even though this image is conceptual during a military uniform and is based as a futuristic uniform it still subscribes to the modern look of the uniform. For example featuring rank on the left shoulder of the suit will also featuring near the middle of the suit badged indicate what section of the military this person is in for example scientists or a medic or something else. The idea of labelling what type of soldier the character is with a similar signs of rank I think is a very good idea and I may employ this into my character design.

This picture is of the military uniform from the game mass effect. This suit is different compared to the other ones I've research in the way that the rank and what section of the military they are in is not displayed at all with this suit. I can only imagine that the shoulder pads or the suit layout give an indication to what rank the person is wearing the suit fan is quite an interesting concept as it displays information about the wearer in a more subtle way compared to the other suits.

Summary of research:

In my research I looked into military uniforms and focused on decorative uniforms like a raid uniforms. The reason I did this is because I wanted to look for a military suits that would display the most amount of information about the character is possible. The way it displays information about the character is by showing the ribbons and medals that the wearer has achieved an eye for this would be a good way of displaying traits of temperance. For example the wearer could have medal for bravery and it would show that the character is brave and very easily. I also found out through the research that the main design for the military uniform speed quite similar across even different media. The main designs of their well cleaned blazer type uniform featuring rank and medals accompanied sometimes by what division of the military therein seems to be the common design for this type of uniform. Found this research very useful in plotting out what character could look like in this uniform though I would like to change it the research is showing me that the military uniform has to stay similar to what it was before to convey the information about the person.

Characters of Humility: Superhoodie

Back story:

Super hoodie is a character from the TV series misfits. He's played by one of the five members of the gang (Simon) sent from the future to protect them. He is often viewed as a superhero that comes to save the gang in the times of need. He is often seen helping the gang or protecting them from different events like people trying to rob them or hate them. Though the super hoodie Can see all the events that is about happen to the gang is not possess any superhuman powers and because you from the future he is seen the events so Predict them balder than that he is a regular person unlike other heroes like Superman. I think though through his costume and his actions is meant to be shown as a modern day super hero as in for example if the hero was to appear right now. The super hoodie however is eventually killed to protect his girlfriend from being hurt. But as the raw to Simon is in the same timeline because of his death she can now love the proper Simon the way he loved her which and carries on the cycle.

Superhoodie and Humility:

With super hoodie is very selfless the way he acts towards others even though he's only human not like another hero like Superman you can only help a small number of people. For the people that he does help he is extremely brave and without fear even walking to his own death to save the woman he loves put on his life and his body on the line to keep his friends safe and away from harm even suffering masses amounts of pain in the process he does not give in and stays true until you guys. I think super hardy as a character is a good reflection of the modern day hero of a modern day looking hero as well.  

Characters of Humility: Robin Hood

Back story:
Robin Hood is an old English folklore of an outlaw was very skilled bow the folk story meant to be set at the beginning of the 19th century. Robin Hood was well known for his catchphrase of "Rock from the rich and give to the poor" along with his group of fellow outlaws nicknamed the Merry men according to the folk tale they would stop rich folk or the local sheriffs gold deliveries and then take that treasure and give it to the poor to help them through harsh times they were going through. There be many variations of the Robin Hood story told recently with a film with Russell Crowe and also a television series done by BBC1 in which Robin Hood is a survivor of the holy wars and come back to find his landing ruin and is people oppressed though many variations exist the main story stays the same of a legendary bowman who would help the poor.

Robin Hood and humility:
The actions that Robin Hood supposedly taken a very rooted at the virtue of humility means not only did he risk his own life to save himself very frequently risked more to feed the poor. Not only stealing from the rich would he have been put in prison but most likely executed so he risked his life not for personal gain but so the poor could not be oppressed or beaten down. According to some variations of the myth Robbin faced many different foes and according to the old myth would face and no hesitation. Robin Hood nowadays could be resembled some other active groups like say anonymous. As with Robin Hood it would give the poor voice and out of anonymous they give the powerless voice. Robin Hood is a cross between a vigilantes and social hero as he tried to make it fair for everyone but with the use of force.

Characters of Humility: superman

Back story:
Superman is one of the most renowned heroes of comic book fiction spreading all across digital media from comic books to games. Superman originated in planet called krypton where he was sent to Earth as his home planet was dying on air if he lent the value of life in the value of orders this moulded into the superhero who would sacrifice himself for any person the matter who they are and is often faced overwhelming odds to protect cities and people from apocalyptic circumstances. Even when knowing he cannot win he will fight on and face down fear and the unknown to protect those he loves. Not only do Superman save but Superman inspires good within honours that is the point of who we can be that he can be the hero that anyone can be and that everyone can be Superman.

Superman and humility:
Superman is probably one of the best examples of humility with his nearly selfless acts and defending people from danger every day and sacrifice himself for many others Superman is the embodiment of humility. Buyers actions he also inspires others to become heroes and shares this with humans that anyone can be the hero. I think with humility this virtue focuses around the characters that will do anything for others and help them to accomplish anything and I think Superman is the best example of this

Characters of Temperance: Nelson Mandela

Back story:

Nelson Mandela is a renowned leader known throughout the world for his accomplishments and triumphs over an apartheid government.In his youth Mandela studied law Fort Hare University after this he became heavily involved in a number of groups that oppose the South African government even different communist parties. His Activation against the government's were very much notice leading to his arrest is frequently for seditious activities for also involving himself in Communist groups. Although Mandela never committed any violent protests he was related to sabotage campaign and entertain in 1962 for 27 years. Though held in a prison for this long against a racist government he was eventually released in 1990 due to an escalating civil change within South Africa. Upon his release he worked at the current president to abolish the apartheid government and establish equal rights for both blacks and whites including equal voting. Through this became the first black president of South Africa where in his term he focused heavily on equal opportunities and battling poverty for blacks and whites. Though being imprisoned for 27 years he did not take vengeful acts against the people that are placed in their he sought to do something greater by changing the views of all and helping many more people in the process after leaving office Mandela focused heavily on charitable work in combating many different diseases. Nelson Mandela has received the Nobel Peace Prize and has more then 250 honours his selfless acts are freeing a country from an oppressive government

Nelson Mandela and temperance:

In terms of temperance powders Nelson Mandela relates to this virtue lay shown to have a tremendous amount of self-control by not taking vengeance upon the white community all the people that placed him in prison for 27 years but by changing the system thoughts helping more than you could ever imagine I would say this shows more self-control and wisdom than many military commanders. In terms of his courage showed tremendous amounts by protesting at the height of the apartheid's governments power and never backing down and all we showing a resistance to racism even starting his own groups to raise awareness and showing others that their can be change even willing to spend years of his life in prison to make the world better to his community putting them before himself. Even after his term in office he focused heavily on battling poverty and disease phones people still I think that Nelson Mandela is probably the best representatives of temperance there is within a leader

Characters of Temperance: Capt Anderson

Back story:
 Capt Anderson is set in the game Mass effect he's appeared in all three games. Anderson was first introduced as your commanding officer at the first Mass effect game where you to with friends. You learn through events that the captain wants went through the same trials that your character dead and failed to become a spectre. Seeing you as an opportunities to succeed gives you a ship and help sure where recount. In the third game Anderson stays behind in the first battles for Earth to lead the men had to hold back the Reaper hordes until you can bring reinforcements. Through this acts shows an enormous amount of sacrifice and on near the end of the game you meet with and is again to take on the final challenges of the game. At this stage it really emphasises Anderson's role as a father figure your main character and how we always believed in you and knows you could succeed. Near the end of the game Anderson follows your character into the final arena helps you confront the illusive man chose a tremendous amount of honour even when he is being tested to the limit and never backing down he eventually dies from wounds that never stops help and shepherd even to the very end giving shepherd inspiration to do the right decision to destroy the visitors

How Capt Anderson is related to temperance and its qualities is quite different to other characters with Anderson he doesn't lead as much chose enormous amount of self-control by staying behind on air allowing you to call for reinforcements. I taken the sacrifice of staying behind and it shows that he posits the fate of the universe before his and air force in order to buy time for Shepherd to rally his forces. Though sacrificing himself and many others to defend Earth he shows an enormous amounts of leadership as he takes command of the rebel forces on earth trying to organise them to delay the Reaper advancement. Even when tested at the end of the game with indoctrination and is always focuses on what's right and wrong even with the temptation of controlling the reapers Anderson knows that this can never work not to let the reapers live is what they want and is what they're trying to manipulate them to do by staying defiant this shows an enormous amount of self-control.

Characters of Temperance: Admiral Adama

The back story:

Admiral Adama is the leader of the Colonial Fleet in the TV show about Star Galactica. Upon start of the TV series Adama is thrust into leadership of an entire fleet of civilians to protect them from the threat of the cylons. Though he used to command a military fleet Adamo has to overcome the task of making sure the civilian fleet is happy and secure. At the beginning of the show he often shows signs of recklessness and selflessness even talking about scrapping the ships of the parts or leaving them behind buttery different trials he learns that the survival of the human race is more important than vengeance. Attest to Adamo selflessness is that he allows his son and himself to be on the front lines of danger often in staying behind to fight off enemy ships to ensure the fleets allows at the cost of many lives. Though he may be selfless Adamo has strong leadership and commands great respect and does not let others try to the overpower him often even being harsh and unforgiving to his son and close friends to ensure the survival of the ship. There are Adamo makes many mistakes in his command he will always learn from them and not allow  to be tricked again. When confronted by loss or devastating situations Adamo will not let this feelings cloud his judgement showing an abundance of self-control.

Admiral Adama and temperance:

Now how does Adamo relates to temperance and have you later self-control and honour are putting others before him which showed many often does selfless acts put himself in harm's way to save innocence he also shows immense self-control not allowing personal feelings to stop him from his command even placing friends in the break because the possibility they could be plotting against him. Adamo as a character has much self-control and honour shown through his actions.
